Life After Football

Dear HC TERPS Family,

Some of you may be thinking about what to do after the football season ends in a few weeks. As you know, there are many options if your student-athlete wants to continue playing a sport.

Many of our student-athletes choose to play basketball or wrestle so we are providing details about two programs that you might want to consider.  The Howard County TERPS are not affiliated with either of these two programs:

  • Celebration Church/Columbia Basketball Association (CBA) will be hosting winter travel tryouts on October 14, 15, 28, and 29 from 6-8pm at Cradlerock School.  Tryouts are open to middle school-aged students grades 6-8.  For more information, contact Bernard Durham at 410-491-1863.

  • Howard County Wrestling, Inc. (HCW) is currently registering student-athletes for their program.  HCW offers clinic, recreation, and travel programs for students ages five through fifteen years old.  For more information, contact Vince Thomas (7-9 HC TERPS National Assistant Coach) at 301-221-9917 or visit their web site at  http://www.howardcountywrestling.com/.  Coach Thomas, who has coached wrestling for more than 7 years, says “Ray Lewis, Warren Sapp and Tony Siragusa were all Super Bowl Champions who were also high school wrestling state champions.”  Coach Thomas is also won a MD state wresting championship at 167lbs waaaaay back in 1982 J

AXIS MEDIA 019This year’s Homecoming celebration will feature something new and fun for our student-athletes to do after they’ve finished playing their football game or cheer leading.  AXIS Sport Performance and Training company will be on-site at Schooley Mill Park on Saturday, October 3 to host several speed and agility stations.  These stations will include combine and mini-camp type drills designed to put our student-athletes to the test as they run through the various drills and compete against one another for time and prizes.

As part of this partnership, AXIS is offering a special league discount for Howard County TERPS Football and Cheer student-athletes that register for their training sessions before December 31, 2009.  AXIS is located at 9030 Route 108, Oakland Center, Columbia, MD 21045.  For more information or to register, please call AXIS at 410-715-3700 or visit their web site at www.axissport.com

Thursday, Sept 24
Tuesday, Sept 29
Wednesday, Sept 30

We had an excellent kick off meeting on Friday, October 18.  We now need to finalize our events, schedule, etc…  We really need to have more volunteers in order to have a successful event.

Concessions – For homecoming we will have a schedule of people posted for concessions.. We are planning to run concessions all day (or until the food runs out) beginning with breakfast items.  We will need a minimum of two parent volunteers from each team to successfully run the concessions.

There will be a Homecoming Planning Committee Meeting on this Friday, September 18 at 6:30pm near the equipment shed at East Columbia Library practice fields.  We need your help to ensure this year’s Homecoming will be a success.

Homecoming weekend will be Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3.

For more information, please see Monay Matthews or Exnovia Moody.

Tyson and Nick with Jerseys going to schoolHC TERPS student-athletes are encouraged to wear their jerseys to school every Friday.  It’s a great way to show TERPS spirit and to start preparing for game day on Saturdays.  Student-athletes that wear their jerseys to school may even receive a prize for doing so.  Let’s show the community that the HC TERPS are here and we are ready to excel in the classroom and on the field.
